I'm really guilty of over-thinking things when one simple addition is all that's really needed...especially if my summer outfit already lends itself to warm, autumn colors. I wore this a few weeks ago when it was much warmer out, but never got around to posting it. The second outfit is exactly the same with the addition of a belted, military-inspired jacket. I loved both outfits and the really great thing is I didn't have to go through the process of building a whole new outfit for fall.
Skirt: ASOS Tee and belt: J.Crew Wedges: Nine West Bag: c/o Handbag Heaven Jacket: LOFT
#3 Surplus Chic
Take your cues from outside the city limits and incorporate an army-inspired jacket into your look. The rustic elements of a military jacket will hardly seem out of place when thrown over a sequined tee and cinched with a glittery belt...and just that easily, a basic summer outfit is transformed into an equally perfect outfit for a brisk fall day.
This is what I love about a great maxi--movement and flow.

I love this maxi skirt and you're right, it is the perfect color for Fall. I wonder if the one from Forever 21 hangs this nicely??? Hmmm...great look and inspiration, once again!
ReplyDeleteThank you for doing this series of how to style a maxi for fall! You look lovely in all the outfits and would never have thought to put some of these together. I love your blog. Would you mind telling me how tall you are? I am 5' 1.5" and I shy away from maxi dresses and skirts because of my height.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous--I'm 5'4...so I feel ya! A lot of maxi's hang to the floor on me, so I have to wear wedges or stacked heel booties with them. But the Post-Impressionist skirt from Anthro in the first maxi feature is really short...short enough to wear flats with. Also, you could always cut them off and have the edge finished with a satin stitch (very easy)...most seamstresses would be able to do that.
ReplyDeleteLeah--I bought the forever 21 skirt last night--I think it hangs surprisingly well!
