Updating J.Crew: From Ryder to Flair

Tuesday, October 25, 2011

These button front skirts are everywhere this year (and I mean absolutely everywhere!) Madewell, Banana Republic, ASOS, and J. Crew all have their own versions, but essentially it's the same wool skirt.  I've had my J.Crew Ryder skirt folded in a box for a couple years now because it was too big and there was no, no, no way I was ever getting rid of a herringbone wool skirt from J.Crew even if it didn't fit, so the minute I saw the Flair skirt at J.Crew this fall, I knew I could transform my old skirt into something updated and useful  The re-haul turned out to be less complicated than I imagined (it took a few hours), which was the icing on the cake.  Bring on the tights and cool weather.  I'm ready

A more complete tutorial on how to re-work the J.Crew Ryder skirt is here.

Skirt: J.Crew  Sweater: Banana Republic  Pumps: Nine West  Bag: c/o Handbag Heaven

  3. wow- what a perfect use of the old classic skirt! Great buttons too- they look like part of the skirt, which is definitely as skill. So often new buttons just look, well, applied to fabric!

  16. That skirt is very pretty. I'm wondering if it can be made from a pair of wide leg pants? I don't have any skirts that are a little wide on me.
