I. Am. So. Excited.
In 10 days, husbie and I will be leaving on a jet-plane to Johannesburg, South Africa for a two-week mission trip.  This is gonna be a work trip (think painting and repairs), however, I'm sure I'll find a couple occasions to dress up. (I can't totally abandon my girly side, can I?) It's summer over there, but the local missionary tells us it's quite cool in the morning and evening, so I'm thinking layers might be a good way to go.  However, I'm only allowed one 50 lb. bag...EEK!
That's where you come in.  I need your help to plan several outfits around a few pieces to save on space.
What I plan to take (besides grungy work clothes):

  • Three skirts
  • Four shirts
  • One dress
  • Three cardigans
  • One jacket
  • ONLY three pairs of shoes, and nothin' fancy, just comfy ones...(breathe, Kristina. Just breathe...you can do this.)
Below is an outfit builder.  Put a look together for me, why don'tcha?

The creator of the outfit I wear in South Africa
and feature here on the blog the first week of February
will win a $25 giftcard to Anthropologie!

Yup.  I need your help that much.
Name your look using your email address so I can contact the winner!

Oh, and one more thing.  What's your favorite traveling music?  I'm looking for some new music to download for the trip.  Got any suggestions?  Thanks, mah dears!

  1. I published my outfit. Also, one of my favorite bands to listen to when I travel is Needtobreathe's The Outsiders. LOVE. Seeing them live for the second time next month. Also, Wakey!Wakey! is super amazing too.

  3. That's so exciting! I was born in South Africa and have been back a couple times recently. Where exactly will you be?

To get you in the South African mood I would definitely put Paul Simon's Graceland on repeat on your ipod. Maybe look into some Ladysmith Black Mambazo as well. Have an amazing trip!143B10CD-2014-4E07-9387-6976EA9F04AA-420

  5. So exciting! I just LOVE LOVE Africa. It completely stole my heart. I have been on 2 mission trips to Kampala, Uganda. Completely life changing. Slight word of advice though...don't bring anything with you that you would not mind being stained or ruined. S.A is probably a bit more first world, but still not U.S par. Things can get ruined. (But TOTALLY worth it) SO excited for you!

  14. Wow, I rather like playing in your closet! You will look smashing in my Polyvore ensemble "Destination SA". My personal fave travel tunes are chill and cover background noise yet still allow for sleeping : Leigh Nash, The Violent Burning, Feist, The Coral Sea. Happy Trails! joannajnewton@gmail.com

  15. Hey - I created you an outfit, although I think your styles are way better than mine. However, I created "Navy and Yellow" - my email address is tessiedawn@gmail.com.

Not sure what kind of music you enjoy, but I really enjoy the Contemporary Christian artist, Josh Wilson. His songs are quite powerful and make me stop and think. And if you enjoy classical music at all, you might want to listen to all of Vivaldi's Four Seasons. Just got the entire collection to listen to and was in love. :)

  16. Have you heard Andy Cherry's song "God's Alive"? Makes me wanna get up and shout every time I hear it! Otherwise, a group called Anthem Lights has some really cool ballads.

  22. I know I'm late. But music-wise....Mat Kearney, Colbie Caillat, Civil Wars, Andrew Belle, Brooke Fraser, and He Is We are all really chill bands. Leeland will make you want to save the world. Hillsong United, David Crowder Band, Tenth Avenue North, Kari Jobe - great worship music.
