Constructing: Holland Dress

Sunday, June 10, 2012

This fabric was draped on my dummy for days before I could decide what to do with it....I so did not want to mess up something so purdy. I originally had great maxi dress plans for this fabric and I still might construct a maxi version, but after I draped the bodice, the shorter gathered circle skirt practically designed itself. Yeah. It was kinda freaky.

The Holland dress is a brilliant explosion of crepe de chine with a semi-blousant front bodice and flutter sleeves, because I don't think there's anything more annoying in the summer than a dress that sticks to you. The extra full skirt is all swishy and girly and stuff, which is so unexpected of my designs, I know. HA.

To say I love this dress would be an understatement. There. Glad to get that off my chest. During the process of constructing this dress I discovered that design expectations can be dangerous, but they can also be wildly exceeded
I might just wear this dress all week. I'm kidding. (I'm not kidding.)

  8. That is sumptuous fabric! Do you think you will ever put a tulle petticoat under it so that it sits out even more full? And I'm with Chrissy and Lisa... :)
