Sometimes Life Is Too Much...

Ya know what I mean?

Four weeks ago, my family moved from a temporary apartment into a out-dated house. Four weeks before that, my book was released, my baby daughter started school and my husband began working a new job in a new town. I've tried to keep up. I really have. And in the back of my mind I keep thinking about you guys and how I haven't really created anything new for like ever and how I must be the most boring DIY style blogger ever. But I'm looking around at everything going on in life and this uninspiring room that is supposed to be my studio and thinking: "I can't create in a space like this. It's too overwhelming."

Sometimes, you just go crazy, and right now is definitely one of those times. I've already cried twice. Every hour. For weeks. That's way too much crying (even for me). Instead of trying to be creative in everything, I'm going to take a few breather moments away from DIY style to focus on DIY room renovation (see my home studios inspiration) and hopefully turn this shabby room into a lovely, creative space. I know. There's a whole lotta ugly to be transformed. I'm not going to completely disappear, but the DIY tutorial part of Kristina J. will definitely be MIA. There are drapes to be made and furniture to be reupholstered.

That's where I am in life. Sorry for the hangup, mah dears. In the meantime you can follow everything going on behind the scenes on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

  1. Much as I love and look forward to your DIY and outfit posts, I can appreciate why you won't be doing them at the moment! I hope you enjoy the decorating experience eventually, and I look forward to you returning again.

  2. I feel your pain! We just moved to a new city and it looks like all we can afford is an outdated house. I cry a lot after we go house hunting. I'm sure your room will look amazing when you're finished with it.

  3. Don't apologize for the hangup! I would love to see DIY room renovation from you. And we never want blogging to be overwhelming and unsustainable for anyone, so do whatever you feel like you need to do, whether it's blogging about DIY home stuff or taking a short break from blogging altogether. Whatever keeps you here for the long haul! :D

  5. Kristina,
It's you that brings me to read your blog. It's the things you like, create, think, or put together. So if it's renovation projects, great! It's okay that life's adventures put blogging on hold or slow it down. When you are ready to share, I'll be happy to read and see whatever it is that interests you.
    Thanks for sharing yourself.

  6. When I get overwhelmed by life's overload, I walk around in circles, crying out to no one in particular: "this is all TOO MUCH! I can't do ALL of this!!" Eventually, I re-engage and re-organize. I look into dusty files and boxes full of artsy fabrics, books, patterns, yarns and such, and I give thought to who I am. There in those boxes full of craftsy stuff, is the makings of who I am as an artist and ALL those things I love to dabble in. At some point, POOF! balance happens and I am back at it. Your remake will be outstanding, you are one creative chic whom I admire because you share with all of us! Congrats on your book, your daughter's milestone success and your plans for a workroom that's going to wow us all. Sincerely, a fan of yours : )

  7. Ya know, I'm actually really excited to see what you do!!! The bones of the room look great. I'm sure once you have applied your artistic flare in the form of a reno, all manner of amazing things will come from your designer mind. Now if only you lived in Sydney, I'd offer to come over and help with the manual labour. ;)

  8. This room has amazing potential! I'm excited to see what you'll do with it. I love renovation! So much work, but the rewards are beyond worth it. Last night I was thinking about our current home and how it looked exactly one year ago. Even with working full time, having a family, and coming through a major physical ordeal, the time we have been able to put into it has transformed it from an ugly, scary, smelly place to an oasis of rest, peace, and beauty. Keep encouraged...the end will come, and you will love what you have created!

  9. Hugs! I don't think you're boring at all- you're just very busy! Good luck with the adjustments and getting settled in. Did you bring your piano? Playing helps me. :)

  10. Lyrics from a new song really resonates with me: "I try to take on the weight of the world but I only have two hands." You are human. Give yourself a break. :)
