Day 3: Coordinating Versus Contrasting

Good Afternoon, darlings...
since Blogger decided to have malfunction issues
this post is getting out later than planned,
but better late than never, I guess.

While taking Design classes a couple years ago,
the eight weeks I spent studying coordinating and contrasting
were the most insightful lessons learned on how to work colors
either against each other or with each other,
and it's a concept I use more than anything else
to see how much mileage I can get from the clothes
hanging in my closet.

Rather than go on and on with words,
I think these pictures will explain more than anything
I can say...plus, they're a lot more fun to look at!

Coordinating color tones are next to
each other on the color wheel,
while a contrasting color shade would fall
more directly opposite on the color wheel.
Working a piece with several color
spectrums will give your wardrobe
several more outfit options than
you might have initially thought.

I love how the burnt orange pops in the middle version.

At first glance, this middle version looks
more contrasting than the one on the right.
But it falls in the middle because orange is closer
to yellow and brown on the color wheel than navy.

See how much fun you can have?
It's like being given a brand new wardrobe!
So, now that you've seen all my outfits for the next three weeks,
prepare to be bored with all OOTD postings! =)

Wearing: Brassica

Thursday, February 24, 2011

Somebody said that it couldn't be done
But she with a chuckle replied, that
Maybe it couldn't, but she would be one
Who wouldn't say so, 'til she'd tried.

So she buckled right in with a trace of a grin
On her face, if she worried, she hid it
She started to sing as she tackled the thing
That couldn't be done and she did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done
There are thousands to prophesy failure
There are thousands to point out to us one by one
The dangers that wait to assail you

But just buckle in with a bit of a grin
Then take off your coat and go to it
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
That 'cannot be done' and you'll do it.
