OK. Not gonna lie. Finally getting my very own Anchor's Aweigh tee? I die!
This project has been at the back of my mind for over a year, but for whatever reason, I couldn't ever get my hands on the elusive anchor stencil. I fell in love with the Morgan + Milo shirt released for the Garnet Hill many, many months ago. I'm so over the moon about this project. I can't quit making them....for my friends, for my family, even for strangers. It's gonna be like a giant explosion of cutsy-tutsy anchor tee's in my living room.
Seriously. It's that bad.
If you don't have a machine that will print shapes find a drawing on Google of an anchor you like. Print it and cut out the anchor shape, then retrace on card-stock or stencil paper and cut out the anchor so you're left with a stencil.
You could also make your own chiffon flower, but I was too lazy so I bought this little beauty from the girl's accessory section of Target. Not kidding. You'll have to remove the clip from the back, but otherwise, these little flowers work like a dream.
I love this DIY. It's a perfect Anchor tee shirt especially since I missed out on some good ones this season. I'm sure that if you sell these, you would get lots of requests. Thanks for the great idea!

This is really cute! I love the nautical trend and this is a great way to wear it. I've never done any stenciling. You've inspired me. Now, I'll have to try it out.
ReplyDeleteOh geez, Kristina! Finally a project I can do but I already have the Anchors Away tee. I suppose I could just as easily choose another stencil though so thanks so much for this wonderful tutorial and the heads up on the lovely little flower that can be found at Target.
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm sorta jealous that you have the original! =)
DeleteLOVE this shirt! I'm going to have to look for a giant stencil now! Swoon.

Oh my goodness I love this! Definitely giving it a try as I can't resist anything nautical!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute--I never would have thought of adding a flower--but it makes the shirt!
ReplyDeleteThat is absolutely adorable! I love anything with anchors. I found you at the link party on 504 Main. :) Megan
ReplyDeleteI love this! Seriously! The flower positively MAKES it! I think I know what project I want to try over Labor Day. ;) Pinning!
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous! I smeared some paint on a grey tee while I was refinishing a bookshelf, so this would be perfect for refashioning that shirt.
ReplyDeleteLOVE it! uhhmmm...& I seriously NEED one of these -- wanna make me one?!?! ha! j/k! ;-)
ReplyDeleteSo you can use regular acrylic paint as fabric paint? I'm so unsure about what paint to use on fabric. I've got a few different colors of Americana acrylic paint that I've used to make signs. It would be nice to be able to use those for fabric, too. :)
ReplyDeleteI designed this tee for Morgan & Milo kids, and LOVE your grown up version. Makes me smile.
