jeweled clutch

Projects like this prove you don't have to go all ruffles and stuff to get your glam on and you can get a clutch like this in two easy steps. And I love a small clutch for holiday events, church programs and parties...big enough to carry what you need without the hassle of hauling a giant bag over the shoulder of your pretty dress.
When it comes to finding the right kind of jewels, I've found bracelets with large pieces attached by elastic are the easiest and most convenient (no assembly required). They're easy to disassemble and using larger, stand-alone pieces that are ready to glue to your bag will save you the time of gluing several tiny pieces together.

what you need pink

--small clutch
--several bracelets or flat-back jewels (I bought mine from Charming Charlie)
--hot glue gun

1.  Cut the elastic band from the jewels, if you're using strung jewelry.

2.   Hot glue jewels to clutch in desired pattern. I went with an up and down pattern and only covered the top flap.
3.   DONE.

How to Refashion a Halter Dress Into a Pencil Skirt

Wednesday, February 19, 2014

Banana Republic sweater | JCREW belt | HM coat | Forever21 Pumps | FOSSIL bag

I'm always on the lookout for great fabrics and when I spot the bling of sequined fabric all I can think is Well, hello, sparkle. A sequined pencil skirt is a slick alternative to an ultra-trendy piece, so re-purposing a halter dress into a classic wardrobe essential seems a no-brainer to me. What girl doesn't love to don a sparkly skirt that makes her feel cool, calm and collected? (Any garment that evokes such a feeling is a bonus, lemme tell ya.)

what you need
--a relatively straight garment with a shape you deem useless while retaining an excessive love for its fabric
--7-9 inch zipper
--spool of 1 inch grosgrain ribbon
--seam ripper

Chic Girl's Tip:  If there isn't a back seam, leave one of the side seams open to accommodate the zipper.

YOUR TURN:
To what sort of occasions would you wear a sequin pencil skirt? Is it a legitimate alternative to the traditional pencil skirt?

Constructing: Merrytime Dress

Tuesday, December 18, 2012

fashion design via Kristina j blog

Funny thing about this dress--it was supposed to be part of a holiday collection built around some great ivory lace I bought from China this summer, but I never got around to constructing the other dresses. At least I have one great dress for the holiday, no?

Here it is, several days before the new year and I've realized I cannot do everything at the same time.
The next few weeks are going to be a blur, so I'm stepping on the brakes and going MIA until 2013.
I wish you the very best, most peaceful and unforgettable holiday season.

Nothing brings a "dress-out-loud" feel to your wardrobe like a little bit of bling. If you--by you, I mean me--already have enough basics in your wardrobe to last ten years, then here's a super easy fix for the yawn-inducing sweater in your closet. Once the holidays are long gone, you'll have a top with one-of-the-kind detailing you can grab to punch up your other neutral basics. You can find pre-strung jewels at places like charming CHARLIE, Joann Fabrics and Claire's, and FYI, when you're choosing your strand of jewels, watch out for anything that's too 3-D and chunky. You don't want the weight to pull the front of your shirt down unnaturally. Just my two cents.
