The Chic Girl's Guide to a One-of-a-Kind Wardrobe
No one tells you when you sign a book contract that you'll be expected to become a promotions expert, a salesman, a publicist and a marketing director. It's a lot to take in...especially for a girl who prefers to stay behind the scenes, but I hope to make the promotion of my upcoming book (for which I'm contractually responsible) as organic as it can be.
The Chic Girl's Guide is a natural extension of the Kristina J. blog, so in keeping with the spirit of DIY style and fashion, I'll be hosting several giveaways this summer leading up to the release date on August 13. The book is officially available on

I recently got inspired to take all the items out of my closet that I haven't worn for years and either get rid of them or rework them into something pretty.
This is one of those dresses--a Simply Vera dress that used to look like this.
The dress was pretty enough, but so simple I just never got inspired to wear it, though I'm sure Vera Wang would croak if she knew I'd slapped so much extra on her dress...hehehe
I posted the tutorial for all the elements I added here--a bit of flutter at the hem, a little fluff on the shoulder and even a ruffled waistband. Suddenly, this dress is something I'd pull out for any special occasion, especially with the holidays just around the corner, every girl needs a little something sweet to don for all those concerts and parties!

Bust: 14in. (with pleats and yoke sleeves there's plenty of room here.

So, I officially turn 30 this Saturday, 9/11 Day,
and just to celebrate and let you know how much I appreciate
the fact that you've even arrived at this page in the middle of a HUGE blogosphere, I've been shopping for YOU!!!

I'm super excited about these because I'm a HUGE fan of handmade products and also, these cards are actually made by my cousin, who is a genius paper crafter, and just opened her Etsy store two weeks ago. The really crazy twist is she's expecting her first baby this Saturday--MY birthday! Cool, huh?
