How to Refashion a Halter Dress Into a Pencil Skirt

I'm always on the lookout for great fabrics and when I spot the bling of sequined fabric all I can think is Well, hello, sparkle. A sequined pencil skirt is a slick alternative to an ultra-trendy piece, so re-purposing a halter dress into a classic wardrobe essential seems a no-brainer to me. What girl doesn't love to don a sparkly skirt that makes her feel cool, calm and collected? (Any garment that evokes such a feeling is a bonus, lemme tell ya.)

what you need
--a relatively straight garment with a shape you deem useless while retaining an excessive love for its fabric
--7-9 inch zipper
--spool of 1 inch grosgrain ribbon
--seam ripper

Chic Girl's Tip:  If there isn't a back seam, leave one of the side seams open to accommodate the zipper.

YOUR TURN:
To what sort of occasions would you wear a sequin pencil skirt? Is it a legitimate alternative to the traditional pencil skirt?

  4. I think it should be worn whenever the mood strikes you! (Possibly not when you are cleaning the WC though... but hey, whatever works right?!) My question to you would be... what are you going to do with the little left over bits??? Oh the sparkle you could add to something with just a little piece of that fabric! Accessories, bag bling, cushion creativity... a little zippered pouch to send to someone you think is neat. And the list goes on. :)
Enjoy wearing your shimmery, sparkley new skirt. I think it's rad.

  9. I would recommend this dress to anyone planning to go to prom (what mine is for) or just for a very formal occasion. I am 5'7", and the dress is perfectly floor length on me.
