Favorite Things: Gingham and Paisley

Tuesday, February 1, 2011

Good evening, mah dears.
I don't know where you live, but here on my street
we've been holed-up for a couple days by an
insane amount of ice and snow, and I've just gotta say, I'm so over this weather.

You know how when someone tells you not to think of something,
your thoughts automatically zip-line in that direction?
Just knowing we're still so far from spring has me
mildly obsessing about gingham and paisley and sunshine and fresh lemonade.

Here are just a few items I've been swooning over recently...
and don't they look pretty all together like this?

1. American Eagle button-up
2. Doggie Toddler Hair Clippie by CrowesNest
3. PinkBowtique Flower Hat
5. Forever21 button-up
6. Monogram Cards by Jessica's Paperie
7. Gymboree Embroidered Fish Dress
10. Easter Cards by Fuzzy Sheep Cards
11. Hollister button-up
12. Cupcakes
14. Sundance Cutwork Skirt
15. J.Crew Paisley
16. Old Navy Paisley
18. crewcuts boys shirt

School Uniforms

Sunday, August 22, 2010

As of today, our son Konrad, has officially joined the ranks of school-goers everywhere. We took a special trip to Schoolbells to buy the very uninspired (I apologize to the designers) school uniform he's required to wear at the private school he attends.
I mean, surely duckcloth can be woven into colors other than blue and khaki, right? Just sayin'...
The crazy thing is, he absolutely loves it! Go figure...

Such a symbolic day...
the first of many steps he'll take in walking away from me as we (hopefully) raise him to become more and more responsibly independent.
Look at that face!!!
I doubt I'll ever be a designer for a uniform company, but if I ever did get to design a line, I for sure be doing some crazy stuff for the kids.
These are some uniform sketches from my own sketch-book. Please keep in mind that I am NOT an artist and sketching has never been a part of my design process (it's really more organic for me), but I still keep trying to draw...

So, while I appreciate uniforms for the money I'll save in play clothes, I guess I'll always be dreaming of a school where the children look more like they walked out of a crewcuts ad than a classroom.
What about you? Do you love uniforms or hate them?
Would you love them more if they were actually cute?

What Kenzie Wore

(Maggie Zoe Dress)

As a stay-at-home mommy, I'm always a little amused when someone finds out and responds incredulously,
"What do you DO all day?"
There's something inside me that wants to reply,
"Uh, HELLO!!!??? I'm a Super-Hero!"

I wake up; try to squeeze in a shower before the ravenous wolves descend for breakfast, clean up the spilled milk, proceed to dress four people, put on their shoes, then change the said shoes my son has grown out of apparently overnight, head out to the car, go back inside to change my other son's clothes, who has just ripped his shorts climbing the chain-link fence, and put new underwear on my recently potty-trained daughter who "almost made it".
After the damage control, we pile into the car and I discover I've left my keys lying on the counter (again).
I go 'round to look for the spare key (which I probably forgot to return to its place last time I used it) and after grabbing the snacks I left in the fridge, we head out for story-time at the library.

And all this before 9:00 AM!!

It's amazing that any mom (without the help of a full-time nanny) manages to make it out the door with everyone fully clothed, not to mention semi-coordinating.
It's an insane life...I mean, seriously...am I the only one who's ever wondered what in the world I did the two hours I had to primp in front of the mirror every morning?

Oh, well...at least Kenzie looked good. Here are a few of the ways she stepped out in JULY.
