Constructing: Creme Brulee Dress

Thursday, November 18, 2010

I built this dress for my amazing and supportive friend on her birthday.
I wanted to do something really special and surprise her, but I'm not sure it was much of a surprise since I had to get very precise measurements first!

There's always a delicate balance when designing pieces for someone else--
using fabrics and silhouettes they like and look good in,
while maintaining a part of myself in it so I can be proud to put my name on it when it's done.

I don't wear jersey knit all that much, but she does, so I went with it, making sure to use a color palette we both love (cream and chocolate brown) and including the hem ruffle (a signature) so I'd recognize it as mine...

So pretty!

I included a tutorial for these flowers here.

  5. I had Creme Brulee at lunch today. Love how you so perfectly named this dress. The little cross stitched circles do certainly resemble little custard cups filled with the amazing dessert. Especially with the shiny fabric on top. Just like the sugar you sprinkle on top before burning it. Amazing dress Kristina. Your an amazingingly creative gal.
